Wisdom and the Fear of the Lord

in Obedience/Discipleship

Wisdom begins with your view of God. Here's today's Bible Minute.

The Bible says in Proverbs 9:10, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." Now, let me give you a definition of the "fear of the Lord." It's that delicate balance between the reverential awe for Who God is, and a respect for what God wants.

This is Who He is; bigger than you and I are, bolder, braver, brighter than you and I are. But, this is what He wants; He wants to have an intimate relationship with you and me. And that's why we fear the Lord. Here is this big God and little us; here's this worthy God and unworthy us.

So we get a sense of what the fear of the Lord is like when we see who He is, and respect Him for that, but we also see what He wants, and we love Him for that.
